I developed this line of cards and invites a few years back as a side project. They were in a few novelty and specialty stores around Los Angeles, CA. During that time, I was throwing a lot of showers and having my own wedding, and there just weren't any cards on the market that appealed to me or my friends. It felt like an uncomfortable symbolic compromise; giving up the nuances of oneself to become a wife or mother. It left me with a strong pull I couldn't shake to create something. So I did.
I love sexy shoes and those are usually the first to go; another symbolic gesture. I love repurposing materials. I love how line art looks on cardboard and balancing that with a soft, more feminine element of the vellum for the envelope. And of course, incredible illustrations that say it all!
Maxine Miller did the illustrations for me. If you don't know her, look her up. Her work is so good it's hurts.
