OASIS

If there is one thing in common between women who are victims of violence, it’s finding the courage to speak out their truth in order to get the proper help that they need. According to the findings of the Philippine Statistics Authority National Demographic Health Surveys in various years, approximately one in every four women in the country have experienced different forms of abuse. In 2016, the number of cases regarding violence against women (VAW) skyrocketed to 23.13 thousand, and while the number has gradually decreased over the years—with only 8.43 thousand recorded in 2021, the fact remains that the fight against VAW is not going away anytime soon.
Moreover, a lot of women still opt to stay silent even when a lot of campaigns, centers, and policies have already been established to give them an avenue to seek proper help. There are a number of valid reasons why they might choose to keep quiet, namely (a) the abuser is a loved one and they want to protect them, (b) not wanting to have a failed marriage, (c) they are being blackmailed, and (d) they fear retaliation.
With all that being said, OASIS is a web application that will serve as a safe space for women to come together. Like the name suggests, it will act as an OASIS for their thoughts, experiences, and sufferings to be validated and given support.
