E-commerce store mobile UI retrofit

Dancing Deer Baking Company is a bakery that sells cookies, cakes, and other confectionaries.

At the time we worked together, they had an online store that was powered by a custom CMS (Content Management System) setup. Their site was not mobile-friendly, but the traditional approach of using CSS media queries would be very difficult [to almost impossible] to implement.

We used restive.js –– our open-source responsive design toolkit –– to interactively lace their Web pages with smart labels. These labels are then used in CSS to retrofit the layout for mobile screens. We were also able to do specific layout customizations for both smartphone and tablet devices.

The project was also challenging, because we didn't have access to the CMS directly; we had to work through their partner. This meant we had to do all the customizations off-platform, then send in the files and instructions where they needed to be.

Eventually, we were able to add all the necessary enhancements and make their online store mobile-friendly.

Note: Dancing Deer has since transitioned to a different CMS platform for their online store.
