🧘 Meditation apps have one

🧘 Meditation apps have one of the hardest retention problems in mobile. Most people download one, try it twice, and never open it again.
What I’d build differently: → Make the first session under 3 minutes. A 20-minute guided course on day 1 is where people quit → Design the audio experience first. Background playback, offline downloads, and a lock screen player are core features, not extras → Use gentle, behavior-based reminders (“you usually pause at 9pm”) instead of nagging push notifications → Show streaks and progress, but never guilt. A missed day should feel like a fresh start, not a failure → Put the paywall after the first calm moment, not before
I’ve shipped wellness apps with 10,000+ users, and the pattern holds: people stay for how the app makes them feel, not for the content library
