👋 TL;DR

This project was a response to the challenges posed by the 2021 pandemic. My teammates and I worked to address the issues we were facing at the time. We submitted this project to the ANFORCOM 2021 UI/UX competition and secured 2nd place. The task was to demonstrate the design process for a digital product that could contribute to our country's progress.
We designed an app to offer intensive health monitoring and online support from medical professionals and volunteers for Covid-19 patients during their self-isolation at home.

🔍 Project Overview

The Iso-Pal project was born out of the urgent need to address the unique challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021. Fueled by a collective determination to make a meaningful impact, our team dedicated ourselves to crafting a solution that could make a tangible difference.
The backdrop to this initiative was the global outbreak of Covid-19, first identified in late 2019 in Wuhan, China. The World Health Organization swiftly declared it a global pandemic on March 11, 2020. Indonesia, like over 200 countries worldwide, grappled with the impact of this virus. By July 7, the nation saw the highest daily increase in cases globally, with over 2.3 million confirmed cases, of which over 62,000 resulted in tragic loss of life.
With over 340,000 active cases in Indonesia, individuals with varying symptoms were advised to self-isolate at home. However, the critical need for regular attention became apparent, as the condition of patients could deteriorate over time. Alarming statistics from LaporCovid-19 painted a somber picture, revealing that 265 individuals in self-isolation lost their lives. This underscored the imperative of daily monitoring by healthcare professionals for those in home isolation.

Solution

In response to the pressing need for support during self-isolation, we conceptualized and developed the Iso-Pal application. This digital platform was meticulously designed to provide Covid-19 patients with intensive health monitoring and online assistance from medical professionals and compassionate volunteers during their self-isolation at home.
The Iso-Pal application was conceived with empathy at its core, employing the Design Thinking approach. Through meticulous desk research, surveys, and interviews with Covid-19 patients and a medical professional, we gained invaluable insights into their experiences. Four key aspects—goals, motivations, challenges, and requirements—emerged from these conversations, illuminating the path forward.

✍️ Project Problems

COVID-19 patients in self-isolation lack direct companionship, leading to an absence of health monitoring.
Patients experience mood instability when interacting with friends who exhibit excessive concern towards their condition.
The needs of individuals during self-isolation are often inadequately met due to a lack of support from close contacts.
Patients in self-isolation frequently experience boredom and frustration due to limited interaction and activities with others in person.

🧠 How Might We

How can we ensure COVID-19 patients in self-isolation receive intensive online supervision from doctors?
How can we maintain stable mood conditions for patients during self-isolation?
How can we help self-isolating patients reduce feelings of boredom and confusion?
With these challenges identified, the ideation phase sparked a wealth of creative solutions. Through an Impact-Effort Matrix, we pinpointed the most effective strategies. User flows and wireframes were meticulously crafted to ensure a seamless and intuitive user experience.

The resulting Iso-Pal application featured a range of functionalities, from daily health check-ins to direct communication with medical professionals and fellow patients. Social interaction, tailored activity recommendations, and a gamified element were integrated to incentivize healthy habits.
