Building a Speech-to-Text journaling app

The journalling app that writes for you. Never has it been so easy to start journalling. All you need is your voice and something to say. Journalizr will transcribe it for you and keep your thoughts stored in a personal digital journal.

While talking to my partner one evening, they said that they wanted to start journaling but struggled due to their ADHD and severe dyslexia. Upon hearing this, I thought that might be a problem for many people. I decided to create a solution. I built a digital journaling experience for those who struggle to sit and write in a book. Using Speech-to-text technology, I made a web app that records someone's voice and transcribes the recording into a digital journal.

This project was my first building a web app alone. I had built countless websites but never a full app. I knew the key to success was simplicity. Using Deepgram AI's Speech-to-Text API with Nuxt, I created a small prototype in a single afternoon. Once my proof-of-concept was complete, I started building the rest of the infrastructure with Firebase and Stripe. It took just over four weeks to develop the MVP.

I launched on Product Hunt and received a much more positive response than anticipated. Journalizr got 113 upvotes and many positive comments and reviews. Since the launch, the app has grown to have close to 100 users and I am continuously working on improving it. The app has been more successful than I ever imagined and my partner now has a place to journal without writing in a book.
