Vijay Laxmi Pandit was an Indian politician, diplomat, and
feminist born on August 18, 1900. Her father was a prominent lawyer and
associate of Mahatma Gandhi. Pandit fought for India's independence and women's
rights, attending schools in India, California, and London. She heavily
influenced India's political landscape and global affairs. Her political career
took off when she joined the Indian National Congress Party and actively participated
in the fight against British colonial rule. She was elected to the Constituent
Assembly in 1946 and played a vital role in drafting India's constitution. Her
passion for women's rights led her to advocate for gender equality and social
reforms. This included the abolition of purdah, child marriage, and dowry.
