Rebranding Journey of Decade edtech company

Upward Designs

Intro

After nine years, MyCaptain underwent a brand refresh, shifting from explore to PRO courses with a focus on helping students secure placements in their desired fields.
I served as the primary designer overseeing this project, handling it comprehensively from inception to completion. However, collaboration with various team members was integral to its success.
1. Product Managers: I worked with Product Managers to understand the project’s scope and requirements, especially with new elements like the dashboard and revamped features like the schedule and database.
2. Head of Design and Stakeholders: I collaborated closely with Shai Krishna (Former Head of Product at MyCaptain) and Mohammed Zeeshan (CEO of MyCaptain) on this project. This collaboration aimed to obtain timely feedback on design concepts and ensure alignment with the overall design direction.
3. Engineers: Cooperation with engineers was essential to guarantee the faithful execution of the design. This collaboration ensured that the final output matched the design precisely.

Problems:

Currently, more than 90% of our visitors originate from advertising alone. Owing to limited engagement, we haven’t focused on enhancing or developing additional functionalities for the site.
1)Decline in User Engagement The mentioned issues have led to a significant decrease in user engagement, impacting interactions, return visits, and crucial word-of-mouth recommendations for organic growth.
2)Poor Navigation Structure Issues have resulted in a notable decline in user engagement, affecting interactions, return visits, and critical word-of-mouth recommendations essential for organic growth.
3)Lack of Mobile Optimization The MyCaptain website’s lack of mobile optimization is a significant barrier, providing a subpar experience for mobile users, and potentially discouraging engagement and course sign-ups.
4)Outdated Design Aesthetics The old MyCaptain site has issues with outdated design, navigation, and mobile adaptability, leading to decreased user involvement, course enrollments, and client satisfaction, impacting the organization’s growth and industry standing.

Goal:

We aim to revitalize the MyCaptain website by enhancing user engagement, improving aesthetics, and streamlining the user journey. The redesign will focus on the following objectives:
1)Establishing a Unified Design Language We aimed to create a unified design system, including consistent typography, colour palettes, and component patterns to express our brand identity and enhance user experience.
2)Creating Reusable Components To streamline our design process and reduce repetition, we developed a set of versatile and adaptable reusable elements, ensuring their relevance across diverse products and situations.
3)Incorporating Motion Design A static brand is like plain bread without spread — incomplete and unappealing. MyCaptain’s motion design centres around a sphere, symbolizing users and animated experiences. This whimsical sphere moves seamlessly, connecting diverse groups and fostering meaningful interactions.
