Stash or Pass is an innovative portfolio curation tool with a high speed "swipe" UX designed for recruiters and designers. While the product was technically sound, its initial market positioning was overly functional, focusing on the action (swiping) rather than the ultimate professional outcome.
The Challenge: Solving "Talent Fatigue"
The biggest pain point for modern recruiters isn't just "finding" portfolios, it’s the Talent Fatigue caused by reviewing hundreds of identical profiles.
The Gap: The tool’s messaging was: "Review portfolios fast."
The Strategy: My goal was to pivot the narrative toward: "Hunt the Top 1% of talent without the manual burnout".
Strategic Tweaks & Execution
I provided the founder with two high-impact strategic pivots to transform user behavior and retention:
Tweak 1: Status-Driven Conversion (The Hook)
Old Messaging: "Add Your Portfolio."
New Strategy:"Claim your spot in the Top 1%."
Why: This shifts the user's mindset from completing a task to achieving a status-driven milestone. It triggers a competitive drive in designers, increasing registration rates.
Tweak 2: The Organic Retention Loop
Implementation: A "Weekly Featured Talent" series on X (Twitter) and LinkedIn.
Impact: By tagging selected "winners," we create a content loop that rewards high quality users and gives them a reason to keep their profiles updated for ongoing visibility.
The Result: 5-Star Validation
The implementation of these strategies led to immediate positive feedback from the founder, Areeb. The project was awarded a 5 star rating on Contra, confirming the value of moving from functional tools to high-impact marketing narratives.
