Most African cities are not short of traffic data. They are short of systems that do anything useful with it.
That observation is what started this project.
For the past several months I have been researching and developing a concept for an AI-assisted urban transport monitoring system for Abuja, Nigeria .... built around sensor-based data collection, real-time corridor analysis, and an intelligent decision-support framework for transport authorities and urban planners.
The core idea is straightforward: deploy a network of sensors across Abuja's primary and secondary corridors, feed that data into an AI processing layer, and surface actionable intelligence... congestion patterns, incident detection, route performance, peak hour behaviour... in a dashboard that actually helps decision-makers respond faster and plan smarter.
The research covers corridor prioritisation across key districts, global benchmarking against sensor-based transport systems in Singapore, Nairobi, and other emerging smart city contexts, and a policy framework for how a public-private implementation model could work in Nigeria's current infrastructure environment.
This is still a concept. A detailed prototype has been developed, the research foundation is solid, and the framework is built... but the work is ongoing.
What I am most interested in is the gap between data availability and decision-making quality in African urban infrastructure. AI does not solve that gap by itself. The system design, the institutional buy-in, and the research rigour behind the proposal matter just as much as the technology.
That is the work I am doing.
