The idea
The Great Dane started with a question: what would a pet hotel look like if we designed entirely around the experience we wanted pets to have?
"MOST PET HOTELS ARE SO CRAMPED"
The starting observation was that many boarding spaces feel small and cramped. This concept deliberately set aside budget and operational constraints to explore something more generous. Comfortable rooms, space to move, thoughtful care and a café where owners could spend time with their pets.
A hotel that treats pets like members of the family.
The audience
The concept was designed for people who see their pets as their children. Owners who care about their pet’s emotional comfort as much as their physical wellbeing.
That shaped the experience. Alongside exercise and social spaces, the concept makes room for rest, privacy and pets who need a gentler environment. The website needed to help owners imagine their own pet feeling comfortable there.
Making the place believable
A central part of the project was exploring how far AI imagery could bring an imagined business to life.
The images needed to tell a connected story. Bedrooms communicate rest and privacy. Gardens and exercise spaces introduce movement and play. Food and café imagery bring everyday care and companionship into the experience.
The design challenge was connecting those moments into a place that felt coherent. Each image needed a reason to be there and a role in helping visitors understand the stay.
The visual direction
I developed the brand identity, colour palette, website design and AI imagery around a slightly vintage, boutique luxury aesthetic.
Warm browns, soft neutrals and refined typography give the website a relaxed, intimate feel. The direction draws from hospitality, with rooms and shared spaces presented as places you would want to spend time in yourself.
The café extends that idea, making The Great Dane a place for owners and pets to enjoy together.
The website
Across 14 pages, I organised the concept into a website that balances atmosphere with practical information.
Visitors can explore the accommodation, understand the facilities and compare room options and pricing. The layouts give the imagery space while keeping the information easy to follow.
The story moves from an emotional first impression into the details an owner would want before choosing a stay.
The outcome
The finished project brings together a complete visual identity, AI imagery and a 14 page website design for an imagined luxury pet hotel.
Created as an independent concept, The Great Dane explores how art direction and visual storytelling can make an unfamiliar idea feel tangible. The accompanying Figma file shares the design behind the presentation.
