New Studio Mark: Brand Versatility Testing Across Materials
A locked mark is only proven once it survives contact with real surfaces. Before rolling out a new studio identity, I ran it through a systematic versatility test: placing the mark across seven materials and finishes to see where the palette held and where it broke.
The brief
A studio mark that only works on a white background isn't a system, it's a sticker. The test needed to answer a practical question before launch: which palette and housing combinations actually read across metal, enamel, acrylic, paper, fabric, glass and plastic, on flat surfaces and curved ones, under different lighting.
What I did
Built and ran the test through node-based compositing in Nanobanana Pro via Flora, treating the mark and each mockup scene as separate reference inputs rather than redrawing the mark by hand for every surface. Twelve placements were approved across the full palette in the first round.
The refinement pass
A first placement can nail the mark and still fail if the shot reads too close to its stock source. The second round pushed each approved composite further from that source: forcing the surrounding scene into the locked palette as a tonal shift rather than a flat fill, stripping any of the original mockup's own branding, and keeping the mark and product sharp while the background carried the heavier treatment.
