Problem
Independent contractors and freelance designers operate in a state of constant financial uncertainty. Unlike traditional employees, they are responsible for calculating, withholding, and paying their own taxes—a process that is cognitively demanding and prone to human error.
Research Insights
Procrastination vs. Complexity: Users ignore tax prep because the UI of current tools feels like "doing homework."
The "Rainy Day" Fallacy: Even disciplined freelancers struggle to manually calculate the exact percentage of a $5,000 invoice that needs to stay in the bank versus what goes to the IRS.
Mobile Gap: Most freelancers incur business expenses (coffee meetings, hardware, travel) while on the go, but wait until they are at a desktop to "sort" them—creating a massive data gap.
