Provide a detailed overview of your experience (both positive and negative).
During the summer before my senior year, I interned as a Social Media Intern at Voice for the Animals Foundation, an organization devoted to creating respect and empathy for animals through education, rescue, legislation, and advocacy. As the Social Media Intern, I worked directly with the Social Media Manager. I assisted with the design, writing, and execution of social media campaigns, created and distributed informational content on social media pages, and designed social media banners. I also attended educational conferences as a representative of the organization. This internship provided me the opportunity to learn by doing real work and being productively engaged in the workplace. I worked on projects of interest and provided productive value for my employer. I received hands-on experience in a field of interest, learned and practiced occupational skills, and discovered career options.
What two skills did you acquire or expand as a result of this experience, if applicable?
I learned about the importance of effective organization and time management. Since I had to keep track of the progress of multiple social media activities, I needed to stay organized to ensure that I didn’t fall behind on the completion of any of the activities. Properly managing my time was also key, as each activity needed to be completed and submitted on time to my manager.
How will you apply what you learned from this experience/activity in the future?
I can apply what I have learned from this experience in the future when planning long-term projects that require the completion of multiple parts. The organizational skills I learned during this experience can aid me in my DECA officer duties and as a student.
