There are a lot of people in the world who go by other names instead of their government names. Maybe people at your school or job go by their middle name or you've created a nickname for them that you call them most of the time. Celebrities do the same sometimes they come up with something catchy or unforgettable. Today we will go through 15 celebrities and their stage name compared to their real name.

1. The Weeknd (Abel Makkonen Tesfaye)

The Weeknd stated "I left home when I was about 17 dropped out of high school and convinced Lamar [XO crew member] to do the same lol. We grabbed our mattresses from our parents threw it in our friend's s****y van and left one weekend and never came back home... I hated my name at the time though so I tried it as a stage name. It sounded cool. I took out the "e" because there was already a Canadian band named the weekend."

Lana says "I knew that I wanted a name that sounded sort of exotic and reminded me of the seaside on the Floridian coast,”.

3. Rihanna (Robyn Rihanna Fenty)

Although it is unknown why Rihanna chose her middle name as her stage name, people assume that it's because Rihanna has more of a ring to it.

4. Lizzo (Melissa Viviane Jefferson)

Lizzo performed in a female rap group Cornrow Clique, It was at this time that she earned the name Lizzo which is a mix of her original name and the 2001 song "Izzo (H.O.V.A.)" by JAY-Z

5. Winona Ryder (Winona Laura Horowitz)

When asked how she would like her name to appear on the credits of her first role, Winona picked Ryder because Mitch Ryder's album was playing in the background.

6. Vin Diesel (Mark Sinclair)

Vin worked as a part-time bouncer and because of his work, it was important to change his name to protect his identity. He chose Vin as it's short for Vincent, the name of his stepfather who raised him.

7. Dove Cameron (Chloe Celeste Hosterman)

In reference to her father who referred to her as "Dove", she legally changed her name after his death.

8. Cher (Cherilyn Sarkisian)

Cher shortened her name and dropped the last name for stage purposes.

9. Jack Black (Thomas Jacob Black)

Jack just shortened his name by dropping his first name and shortening his middle name to Jack.

10. Iggy Azalea (Amethyst Amelia Kelly)

Iggy's name is inspired by a past dog she loved, whom she named after Iggy Pop. Azalea is the name of the street her mother and family lived on.
