Last Thursday, AAPI, Students in Business, and BLinc hosted a short film screening of Yakap and In Between, headlined by “Take Me Home”, directed and produced by Liz Sargent and Molly Jordan. The film follows a cognitively disabled woman and her estranged sister as they must develop communication skills in order to move past the death of their mother. Throughout the movie, we see feelings of uncertainty, fear, along with edginess, due to the unexpected changes.
Before we briefly dive into the movie, let's take a minute to learn a little bit more about the producer and creator of “Take Me Home”, Liz Sargent. Sargent is a Korean-American adoptee and has won a NY(New York) Emmy. Her art explores issues related to adoption, disabilities, and families. In both her commercial and experimental work, Liz draws on her training as a choreographer at the North Carolina School of the Arts. Her work with Pam Tanowitz and Fisher Center at Bard, Eiko Otake and Jacob's Pillow, and Adrienne Westwood along with Angelica Negron are just some of the experimental dance film collaborations she has done. To learn a little more about Sargent, follow this link to her website.
Following the movie, Sargent and Jordan hosted a Q/A about the short film, “Take Me Home”. Sargent says she drew inspiration for the film from her own personal life, as she said, “Anna is the main character, what we wanted to do was capture her point of view. Anna isn’t magical or inspirational but is also a human being just like us.” Throughout the short film, we see Anna attempt to do things on her own but just like anyone else, we all need a little help. “We tried to capture her [Anna’s] voice in it and allow her to have an authentic performance,” said Molly Jordan—Associate Producer of the film.
While we would love to tell you about the short film, it would be even better if U checked it out yourself! These are great starting points for any students interested in film, television, business students or even if you love movies and TV.  You can reach out to Liz Sargent at elizabethNsargent@gmail.com and Molly Jordan at mollysargentjordan@gmail.com
Additionally, the Student Resources Survey will be launched in the coming weeks. This survey is used to understand the student experience with Eccles School resources. Students will be able to anonymously provide feedback on how frequently you utilize  student services  and how satisfied you are with the available office spaces, resources, and initiatives. By participating in the survey, students will be entered into a drawing to win gift cards, free food, as well as earning passport points.
Throughout March, BLinc will be tabling in the SFEBB lobby. If you have any questions or concerns, here is the list of times when the BLinc team will be tabling:
March 14th, 4PM-6PM
March 15th, 10AM-12PM
March 20th, 4PM-6PM
