About the design project

Since people work more from home due to the pandemic the health issues related to bad ergonomics have increased and screen work pain. Sitting down for longer hours instead of walking to different meeting rooms. when it occurs and aids to build better habits to prevent the pain from occurring.
This project was for the ‘Rapid prototyping module’ at Hyper Islands Upskill program. The goal was to create a high fidelity prototype of a digital health care advisor. I created the service to improve people’s health while working in front of a screen.

Research

I started with research of people working in front of a screen the majority of their time and experience pain from this. I conducted online research and interviews where I found the following insights:
💡 Users experience pain when working from home💡 Common pain is in the neck and back💡 Adjusted habits lower risk of pain💡 Users spend long hours in front of screen due to meetings and screen work💡 Recurring shoulder pain💡 Forget exercises from physiotherapist💡 Shorter exercises and breaks from screen time improve wellness

User journey map

I mapped the user journey based on the research to empathize with the user. I concluded that where the users need help is to find exercises to help them manage their pain. This could also help to build good habits and be reminded of the exercises.

How might we...

HMW help screen workers to find exercises to immediate relieve them of their pain and support their longterm wellness when working in front of a screen?
HMW provide screen workers with tools to decrease their stress?
HMW help screen workers adjust their workplace to improve their ergonomics to prohibit pain?
HMW help screen workers easier connect with professionals to get personalized advice on their health issues?

Ideation

I ideated several solutions including a scan for ergonomic improvements, help users connect with professionals through chat or video, advisory on stress.
I defined the following solution by considered the user journey map and the main goal of helping the users manage their pain. I decided to prototype the exercise library where the user would input what type of pain and then get specific exercise recommendation on that.

Concept card

After ideation I concluded on the following concept to explore further and test with users to find out if this would be useful for them.
Who is it for? People working in front of a screen most of the time. Working OOO. Experience pain from this.
What are they trying to achieve? Improve their health while working and manage pain related to sitting in front of a screen majority of their week.
What will I offer? Exercise to help improve screen work related pain.
Sustainability? Yes sustainable, low impact on environment.

Prototyping

I started with analogue prototypes by drawing sketches on paper. I then used ‘Pop’ to test with a couple of users. After that, I started with grey scale high fidelity prototype in Figma.
I was inspired by Nike’s training app and instead of showing the different focus areas such as core or arms, I show the different pain areas and from that selection the user get advice on different exercises.

Design

After confirming my idea with the simple sketch prototype, I moved over to Figma and created a prototype. I added the colors and then tested with the users.
* I learned that the users appreciated how fast it was to go to the exercise.
* As the pain can change from day-to-day it is good to have a variety of options.
* It’s nice to know how long time each exercise is.
