Many dog owners don't have time to keep up with dog walking or the ability to ask friends or family to watch their dogs when traveling. Pawster is a concept app to help solve some of the more challenging parts of owning a pet by allowing you to find trustworthy pet lovers in your area to help with your furry friend when you need an extra hand.
Role: Product Designer
Responsibilities: User Research, Market Research, User Flows, Wireframes, Visual Designs, and Prototypes.
Visual Design
From the start, I wanted the design to be simple and easy to use. I wanted the color to be a way to pull attention to essential parts and to make it simple for users to understand and use.
Market Research
I compared two popular dog-walking apps that provide similar features such as Dog Walking, drop-in visits, house sitting, and borders/daycares. Both apps seem to be highly rated and loved by both sides of users, the walkers/sitters and dog owners.
User Flow
In this user flow, we focused on finding and booking a service provider as well as a way to add and edit pets and message with other users directly on the app.
Wireframes
The app's design didn't venture too far from the original wireframes except for the onboarding process. It was initially designed as a multiple-page process that didn't seem to fit with the function. I scrapped the whole process and decided to go with something more familiar for customers.
Outcome & Results
Designing this app from start to finish helped me see the importance of wireframing, research, and user testing at different phases of the design, getting feedback so you're not wasting time on a feature no one wants or doesn't work well.
