Wessex Mint Homepage Redesign

Overview

Wessex Mint is a live marketplace for precious metals, offering gold, silver, rare coins and collectible releases through live shopping channels. The project focused on redesigning the homepage into a more premium, editorial and conversion-led digital experience.
The objective was to create a polished homepage design for desktop and mobile that reflects the quality, trust and rarity associated with precious metals, while making live commerce, product discovery and brand credibility immediately clear.

The Challenge

The original wireframe defined the homepage content and section order, but it lacked a refined visual system and distinctive brand expression.
The key challenge was to retain the exact required content while transforming the experience into a more premium, modern and cohesive interface. The design also needed to balance several priorities:
Promote the live shopping experience clearly.
Build trust for high-value purchases.
Make product browsing feel premium and approachable.
Bring consistency across cards, buttons, icons, typography and spacing.
Create a responsive structure that can translate cleanly from desktop to mobile.

Design Direction

The visual direction was inspired by luxury editorial design, collectible objects and live commerce. The final interface combines:
A warm off-white light-mode base for a refined retail feel.
Wessex Mint’s Spring Roll gold (#C3A660) as the key brand accent.
Deep charcoal typography for contrast and readability.
Caslon-style serif typography for major headings, creating a sense of heritage and authority.
Montserrat for supporting text, navigation and product information.
Frosted-glass overlays to layer content over precious-metal imagery without compromising readability.
Clean, structured layouts with generous whitespace and carefully aligned content edges.

Key Design Decisions

Live hero experience

The homepage opens with a live-show hero section, making the current broadcast the focal point of the page. Live status, viewer count, play control, show title, host information and supporting copy are arranged over a rich product image.
A floating frosted-glass trust card sits alongside the hero. It communicates the key reasons to buy from Wessex Mint:
A real mint, not a reseller
100% buyback guarantee
Free delivery
Trustscore 4.8
This approach keeps essential reassurance visible at the moment the user is deciding whether to engage with the live show.

Consistent component language

A single visual language was developed across the website:
Gold-filled primary calls to action.
Consistent outline secondary buttons.
Matching line weights across search, bag, bell, follow and delivery icons.
Rounded cards with carefully controlled corner radii.
Soft frosted gradients for overlays and content panels.
Reusable product, presenter, channel and upcoming-release card structures.

Live channels and presenters

The live-channels section presents each platform as a highly visual card, using platform imagery, live indicators, viewer count and a simple directional action. The layouts were designed to feel like a unified content collection rather than a conventional marketplace grid.
Presenter cards use the same visual family as the upcoming-release cards: full-bleed imagery, smooth bottom fades, readable text overlays and clear follow actions. This helps the live-shopping ecosystem feel connected across the page.

Responsive Approach

The desktop design was structured with responsive behaviour in mind. On mobile:
Navigation simplifies into a compact hierarchy.
The live hero becomes vertically stacked.
The trust card moves into a readable, prominent mobile position.
Product and content cards become scrollable or stacked according to their purpose.
Text sizes, spacing and touch targets are adjusted for smaller screens.
Image overlays retain enough contrast to preserve text legibility.
The goal is to maintain the same premium visual identity rather than creating a reduced or wireframe-like mobile version.

Outcome

The final design delivers a premium, trustworthy and modern homepage that supports both commerce and live entertainment. It elevates the supplied wireframe into a branded digital experience that feels appropriate for high-value precious-metal products.
The completed design system establishes a strong foundation for future pages, including product listings, live-show pages, presenter profiles and campaign landing pages.
