This project involved migrating and enhancing the e-commerce presence for Luke Azzopardi, transitioning their online store from Squarespace to Shopify.
The Challenge:
The project presented several key challenges that needed careful navigation:
Migrating Legacy Content: Transferring large amounts of existing content from Squarespace, which lacked structured product data, required meticulous planning and execution.
Balancing Brand & Performance: Maintaining the brand's strong visual identity and storytelling elements while simultaneously improving technical performance and site speed was crucial.
Feature Implementation Strategy: Deciding between long-term custom solutions and app-based features required careful consideration to ensure scalability and maintainability.
Achieving Zero Downtime: Executing the migration without any interruption to the live store's availability was a critical requirement.
The Objective:
The primary objectives were to successfully migrate the existing Squarespace store to Shopify, modernize the design while preserving the brand’s identity, improve usability and back-office processes, implement specific custom features like pre-orders and wishlists, and prepare the website for scalable e-commerce operations and marketing automation.
Project Scope & Execution:
Frontleft partnered with Luke Azzopardi to execute a strategic migration from Squarespace to Shopify, focusing on a seamless transition and significant enhancements. Our comprehensive scope covered the technical migration, design modernization, and custom feature implementation. Key aspects of the project included:
Platform Migration: Completing the full migration of products, images, and content from Squarespace, including setting up proper Shopify product tagging and organization.
Design & UX Modernization: Adjusting layout and fonts to reflect the brand, reorganizing the main menu structure, implementing design changes across key pages, and optimizing the mobile layout.
Custom Feature Development: Adding a custom-built pre-order system with editable fields, installing a wishlist system with custom styling, and including 'gift receipt' options at checkout.
Checkout & Order Handling: Updating the checkout flow, adding custom cart/product messaging for pre-orders, integrating payment gateways (PayPal, Stripe), and implementing local delivery/pick-up options and shipping logic.
Email Marketing Integration: Setting up and integrating Klaviyo, including account/DNS setup and implementing key automation flows (welcome discount, wishlist reminders, abandoned checkout).
Operational Support: Customizing the packing slip template and creating internal documentation and videos for product management.
Our execution prioritized maintaining brand integrity while building a robust and functional Shopify foundation.
