Challenge
While browsing a Slack community, I came across a post from a designer looking for a Webflow developer to bring his Figma design to life. The post didn’t share any project details, but once I received the file, I discovered a beautifully designed website for a Norwegian branding & design agency—Kastle Black.
The challenge was clear:
The homepage relied heavily on scroll-based animations and interactions, requiring careful implementation.
The site needed to support two languages (English and Norwegian).
A CMS blog and case study structure had to be set up.
The designer had also provided detailed notes on how each animation should behave, so it was crucial to translate that vision into a smooth, performant Webflow build. I knew it would be demanding, but I was confident I could deliver.
Approach
Client-First Style Guide
I began by setting up a Client-First style guide to structure the build. This framework is essential because it:
Keeps classes organized and scalable.
Makes it easy for clients (and future developers) to maintain and expand the site.
Ensures consistent naming conventions and reduces technical debt.
Animation Research
Since the homepage required advanced scroll animations, I spent time on Webflow forums and communities researching best practices to ensure smooth performance without overloading the site.
First Use of ChatGPT for Development
This project was also the first time I used ChatGPT as a coding assistant. I leveraged it to generate custom code for animations and interactions—something I now do daily to streamline custom solutions.
Collaborative Workflow
We held bi-weekly check-ins where I shared updates, discussed feedback, and aligned on the animation details. This iterative approach helped avoid surprises and kept the project moving smoothly.
Client Training
At handoff, I provided Webflow training to the agency team—covering how to update content, publish new blog posts, and add case studies—so they could manage the site independently going forward.
Outcome
The result was a highly interactive, bilingual Webflow website that reflected Kastle Black’s bold identity while staying easy to manage on the backend.
This project stands out as one I’m truly proud of. Not only did it push my skills in animation and multilingual setups, but it also marked the beginning of ChatGPT as a core part of my design and development workflow.
Since delivering the project in 2023, I’ve grown as a Webflow developer and would probably build it faster and more efficiently today. But looking back, this project was a milestone that helped me level up and gain confidence in tackling complex builds.
