This project was created as the official EP cover artwork for Ultraskputnik by Harlem, an electronic music producer and DJ originally from the Dominican Republic and now based in New York City. The visual direction was developed to reflect the hypnotic, futuristic, and stripped-back energy of the EP while staying connected to the underground minimal scene that heavily influences Harlem’s sound. Drawing inspiration from vintage vinyl culture and experimental electronic aesthetics, the artwork was designed to feel immersive, mysterious, and timeless.

The overall composition centers around a circular record-label format, reinforcing the connection between the release and classic analog music culture. A monochromatic color palette was intentionally selected to emphasize texture, contrast, and atmosphere rather than relying on color. The distorted mechanical imagery layered into the background introduces a raw and industrial quality, visually translating the deep, repetitive, and evolving nature of minimal electronic music. Grain effects and faded overlays were used to create a worn, archival feeling, giving the piece a sense of authenticity and underground character.

Typography played a key role in balancing the visual system. The bold title treatment for Ultraskputnik creates an immediate focal point, while the technical monospaced type surrounding the composition adds a futuristic and experimental tone. Circular text placement was used to mimic the continuous motion of a spinning vinyl record and subtly reinforce the rhythmic flow of the music itself. Additional elements such as the barcode and structured layout contribute to the project’s industrial identity, resulting in an EP cover design that feels both minimal and conceptually detailed, aligning with Harlem’s artistic vision and the sonic atmosphere of the release.
