The Scourge / Game UI

The Scourge is a horror game UI system built around restraint, legibility, and atmosphere. The interface needed to support tense exploration without breaking immersion, while still making core actions, settings, inventory, and narrative pickups readable under pressure.

Scope

The work covered both early exploration and final production assets. Exploration focused on title flow, mode select, pause menu, settings, item pickup, contextual prompts, stamina, and detection states. The final system expanded that into graphics, audio, game, language, and control settings, along with inventory, memos, item prompts, pause states, stamina feedback, subtitles, interaction tutorials, and minigame UI.

System Direction

The visual direction uses a controlled horror tone: dark UI surfaces, sharp hierarchy, compact menu structures, and interaction states that feel functional without becoming sterile. The priority was to keep decisions fast for the player while preserving the game atmosphere.

Narrative And Inventory

Inventory and memo screens were treated as core storytelling surfaces, not just utility menus. The UI supports item scanning, readable notes, and contextual prompts so players can understand what they found without breaking the pace of exploration.

Gameplay States

Pause, prompt, and HUD states were designed as lightweight overlays that keep the player oriented. Stamina, subtitles, and interaction prompts use direct language and restrained composition so they can be read quickly during tense moments.

Minigame Interfaces

The final asset set also included specialized gameplay UI for minigames. These screens keep the same visual language while adjusting density and focus for more specific interaction loops.

Result

The final delivery is a cohesive horror game UI kit spanning menus, settings, inventory, readable documents, prompts, HUD feedback, subtitles, tutorials, and minigame screens. It gives the game a consistent interface language that can support both quiet exploration and active gameplay moments.
