4 PROBLEMS that Keep You From Doing Effortless Macacos ⬇ PROBLEM 1️⃣
❗️A poorly timed or short arm swing For the macaco you need fly upwards AND rotate - a long arm swing helps with both of those goals. This ads power and angular momentum to your macaco. PROBLEM 2️⃣
❗Short range of motion in ankles and hips In ‘normal’ jumps your knee helps you extend and fly upwards. But in the macaco we take off backwards. That means the knee won’t fully extend - therefore your ankles and hips need to do more of the work. PROBLEM 3️⃣
❗Not using hand AND head to reach in the direction of travel It is absolutely normal to not do this well in the beginning. Your body won’t allow you to do the reach, if your shoulders aren’t strong enough and a part of you fears falling onto your head. 🤕 That’s why practicing the reach separately is so useful and can get you past a Macaco plateau. PROBLEM 4️⃣
❗Closed shoulders: your chest is pointing to the side in the take-off, instead of straight up facing the ceiling This is more of an effect, than a cause. Many people think ‘oh, my shoulders are just too tight’ and do some shoulder stretches against a door frame. If that’s the only intervention, then it is destined to fail. When you stand on your feet, your body perceives this shoulder opening as a mostly unrelated exercise. What you want instead is to teach your body to get in and out of this position, when you are bearing weight on your supporting arm. 🥳 MACACO SHORTCUT NEEDED?
