Molly and the Midnight Carpet : An Interactive Children’s Storybook Website.

Project Overview

A client approached me with a simple but meaningful request: create a digital space his young daughter could visit at night. He didn’t want bright colors, loud animations, or a typical kids’ website. He wanted something quiet, beautiful, and full of gentle wonder, a place that felt like opening a premium storybook under the stars.
The goal was clear: design an experience that felt safe, magical, and refined at the same time.

The Challenge

Most children’s digital products fall into two extremes. They are either overly playful and chaotic, or too plain and lifeless. The challenge was to create something that felt premium and calm while still carrying genuine magic a child would love.
The experience also needed to work beautifully on both desktop and mobile, with interactions that enhanced the story rather than distracting from it.

Key Features

Night Sky Hero A calm, immersive opening with a soft glowing moon, floating clouds, and gentle parallax.
Interactive Story Pages Five carefully written pages, each paired with a meaningful interactive element the moon, a floating magic carpet, an animated fruit basket, a flippable card and the sun.
World of Night A quiet educational section featuring the major bodies of the solar system, presented with soft 3D hover interactions.
Thoughtful Motion
All animations were intentionally slow and refined so the experience remained peaceful.

The Result

The finished website became a gentle digital refuge. It gave the client’s daughter a beautiful place to return to, and it gave the father something meaningful he could share with her.
The project successfully balanced elegance with emotion, proving that a children’s experience can feel premium without losing its sense of wonder.
