Welcome Flow Design for Rhode

A Simplified Skincare Onboarding Experience

Overview

Designed a three-part welcome email flow exploring how Rhode’s minimal skincare philosophy can translate into a cohesive onboarding experience.
The flow focuses on introducing new subscribers to the brand’s core idea—fewer, better products—while guiding them toward building a simple, repeatable routine.

Context

Rhode positions itself around simplicity in an industry often defined by excess.
Most skincare brands emphasize:
Multi-step routines
Constant product experimentation
Complex layering systems
Rhode, instead, offers a different promise:
Skincare that fits into your life—effortlessly.
This creates a unique opportunity within email onboarding: to reduce overwhelm rather than add to it.

The Challenge

Typical welcome flows in skincare tend to:
Overload users with too many products
Push aggressive conversion early
Prioritize novelty over consistency
For a brand like Rhode, this approach would feel misaligned.
The challenge was to design a flow that:
Introduces the brand without overwhelming the user
Communicates the value of simplicity
Builds trust through clarity and consistency
Encourages adoption of a routine—not just a purchase

Strategic Approach

The flow was structured around a progressive simplicity model:
Introduce the philosophy → What Rhode stands for
Explain how it fits into real life → How the products work together
Guide action with clarity → How to start and stay consistent
Rather than pushing immediate conversion, the sequence builds:
Understanding → Trust → Routine Adoption

Flow Overview

Email 1 — Welcome to Rhode

Purpose: Introduce the brand and its philosophy
The first email sets the tone with a strong visual identity and a clear message: skincare doesn’t need to be complicated.
It focuses on:
Brand introduction
Simplicity as a differentiator
Key product highlights

Email 2 — Your Simplified Routine

Purpose: Educate and reduce decision friction
This email breaks down how Rhode products work together as a system.
It introduces:
A clear 3-step routine
Product roles and benefits
How layering works
The goal is to remove uncertainty and make starting feel easy.

Email 3 — The Glazed Routine

Purpose: Reinforce trust and drive conversion
The final email shifts toward social proof and product confidence.
It highlights:
Why customers stay with Rhode
Testimonials and shared experiences
Core products that anchor the routine
This positions Rhode as a long-term habit, not a one-time purchase.

Design System

The visual system was designed to reflect Rhode’s brand principles:
Neutral, minimal color palette
Soft, clean layouts with generous spacing
Product-first compositions
Real skin imagery to reinforce authenticity
Rounded containers to create a calm, approachable feel
Each email maintains consistency while allowing enough variation to keep the sequence engaging.

Conversion Thinking

The flow avoids high-pressure tactics and instead focuses on:
Reducing cognitive load
Making product roles easy to understand
Reinforcing routine consistency over experimentation
Using social proof to build confidence
Guiding users toward a single clear action
The CTA strategy evolves from: Explore → Understand → Build

Outcome

This project explores how a welcome flow can function as an extension of brand philosophy—not just a conversion tool.
By prioritizing simplicity, clarity, and consistency, the flow creates an onboarding experience that aligns with Rhode’s positioning while supporting long-term product adoption.
