The clock chimed witching hour as Malcolm prepared to leave. They wouldn't note
his absence until late morning; When they decided to acknowledge his presence, he
would no longer be there. And he was glad of it. For too long Malcolm told himself he
had put up with their behaviour. Now it was his turn at redemption. To bring that
spark back to his eye and fresh air to his lungs. It had been too long since he could
remember who he was. The shadows in the corner of the old room danced as the last
items were packed. He would take what he could carry - he wanted to start fresh
anyway. Swinging the hefty hikers sack onto his back he took one last look around.
The bag was chosen not only for the convenience but also to blend in. It will be a long
time until Malcolm finds a place he wants to call home. With many trials and
tribulations that he must face first. He’d already slain the dragon, the fire still
burning beneath his skin. What he did not expect was for the shadows to follow him,
to play coyly in his vision as he walked away from his past. He told himself it was a
blessing, this new chapter would be easier - better. What Malcolm didn't know, is
what lurked in those shadows. And what would soon come to pass, as he crossed that
border and the darkness lifted from his eyes. The memories ‘They’ had been keeping
from him, the spell that had held him hostage, suddenly freed a cruel and twisted
mind. Malcolm was free from the dark… because he was the dark. And now, he had
work to do.
