Oaksend – Redefining Cross-Border Payments

Oaksend is a cross-border payment platform designed to help individuals and businesses send money internationally. The design focused on improving fee transparency, simplifying the transfer flow, and increasing overall user trust.
Role: Product Designer Scope: UX research, user flows, wireframing, UI redesign, prototyping Timeline: 8 Days

The Problem

Cross-border payment platforms often:
Hide fees until the final step
Use unclear exchange rate markups
Overcomplicate the transfer flow
Create anxiety around total costs
Users frequently feel uncertain about:
How much will actually be received
Where hidden charges appear
Whether they are getting a fair rate
This lack of clarity reduces trust — which is critical in financial products.

The Goal

Design a transfer experience that:
Makes fees visible upfront
Clearly breaks down exchange rates
Reduces friction during transfers
Builds confidence and trust

Research Insights

From competitive analysis and user behavior patterns:
Users care more about final amount received than mid-process details.
Hidden fees create emotional friction.
Most transfers are repetitive — users want speed.
Trust increases when platforms explain calculations clearly.

Key Design Decisions

1️⃣ Fee Transparency First

Instead of revealing fees at the final confirmation screen, I designed a real-time fee breakdown directly within the amount input screen.
Features:
Live exchange rate display
Clear service fee breakdown
Total amount recipient receives
No hidden charges messaging
This reduced uncertainty and increased confidence before users continued.

2️⃣ Simplified Transfer Flow

The original flow had unnecessary steps. I streamlined it into:
Enter amount
Choose recipient
Review breakdown
Confirm
Each screen had a single primary action to reduce cognitive overload.
