“Should I pull the trigger?” He asks as I am lying on the couch
staring down the barrel of the gun. I keep my expression blank and my body
perfectly still. I have never flinched at his outbursts before, and I am not
starting now. I refuse to give him the satisfaction of seeing me react.
“I don’t remember if there is a bullet in the chamber.” A
sense of panic arises within me as those words leave his lips. “I guess we will
find out….”
Prologue 2
“You are absolutely stunning.” He says as he runs his fingers
down my cheek. I flinch at the feeling of his rough, calloused fingers scraping
against my smooth skin.
Every instinct in me tells me to back away. To run, but I can’t.
It’s not because of the handcuffs around my wrists, securing me to the bed. Not
out of fear for him, but simply because I know I won’t get far. I am too
exhausted to run.
“I wanted to take you back in high school, but I was afraid you’d
leave me. That you’d hate me. Now, I have you and I won’t lose you.”
