Ocean Vox / Bank One wins the 2020 Mauritius Sailing Championship
The 2020 regatta season in Mauritius has successfully re-emphasised to sailing aficionados what this sport is all about: challenge and resilience. Given a schedule full of unforeseen events, the crew of Ocean Vox / Bank One managed to face and overcome all the hurdles to win the Mauritius Sailing Championship.
With last year's sanitary crisis and the closure of the borders, the crew had to forgo having Luc Billard, owner and skipper, Pierre Josserand, Olivier Daguin and Jérôme Thomas on board. New members were welcomed on the sailing team, including Yann Jacobee as skipper, Marc Israel and Quentin Papin, along with Benjamin Turquois, Frédéric Mayé, Elodie Jacobee and Vincent Portugal, and the yacht set sail.
The 2020 season kicked off with this new squad, which had to learn to sail together as one. After achieving a 5th spot in the Far East Challenge Cup and a 3rd place in the ANAIK Challenge Cup, Ocean Vox / Bank One continued its progress, notwithstanding a complex weather calendar.
Thanks to their dedication and several training sessions, the team was able to develop a sense of cohesion, which is one of the core values that spurred Bank One to sponsor this yacht. In fact, sailing embodies the values to which the bank is committed, such as the values of entrepreneurship, resilience, self-improvement and the underlying principles of performance and cohesion.
Once the necessary automatisms had been acquired, the boat, with its reaffirmed team spirit, was awarded the double title of champion in the Méphis Cup and won 2nd place in the Blue Shadow Cup.
At this point, the Ocean Vox / Bank One lead the provisional overall standings and was set to complete the three-stage Tour de l'île, which was called off due to the grounding of the Wakashio. It will now be substituted by the three-stage Tour 2020 on the north coast of the island. The yacht will indeed win the first two legs. Ocean Vox / Bank One has thus strengthened its position as leader in the general ranking, but stays on the watch with Spry, Wasabee and Aldebaran closely following them. Their victory will be guaranteed during The Suffren Cup, which they will win, thus confirming their position as champion despite a 3rd place in the last race.
