Branded Storytelling Through Strategic Editing
Overview
This showreel highlights four projects across different industries:
Joberg2C Mountain biking film
Sanlam Investment banking profile video
Laastedrif Farm branded story
Van Loveren Family Vineyards
Each project required handling large volumes of footage and shaping a clear, focused narrative aligned with brand identity.
The Challenge
Across all four projects, the core challenge was the same:
Hours of raw footage
Multiple shooting styles
Different tones and audiences
The risk?
A visually impressive edit with no clear message.
The goal was not just to “cut footage.”
The goal was to create clarity.
My Approach
1. Story Before Timeline
I don’t start with effects.
I start with structure.
For each project, I:
Reviewed all footage in full
Identified emotional peaks and brand-defining moments
Built a script or narrative outline before editing
This ensured every shot served a purpose.
2. Strategic Shot Selection
Handling large volumes of footage requires discipline.
I selected shots based on:
Brand alignment
Emotional impact
Visual clarity
Narrative progression
If a shot looked good but didn’t move the story forward, it didn’t make the cut.
3. Brand-Focused Editing
Each film required a different tone:
Mountain biking → Energy, rhythm, movement
Investment banker profile → Authority, trust, professionalism
Laastedrif Farm → Atmosphere, immersion, authenticity
Van Loveren Vineyard → Emotion, community, purpose
The pacing, transitions, music, and structure were adapted to reinforce each brand’s identity.
The edit supports the brand.
It never distracts from it.
4. Clarity Over Complexity
I focus on:
Clean pacing
Logical story flow
Controlled use of music and sound
Visual breathing space
The result is work that feels intentional, not over-edited.
