Strix — Social Gaming, Reimagined for Desktop

Your people. Your games. One connected place.

Strix brings communities, conversations, screen sharing and play into a single desktop experience. I designed and developed the product end to end, connecting a distinctive visual identity with the systems that make a social application work.
My role — Product direction, UX/UI design and full-stack development. Focus — Community software, real-time communication and desktop integration. Built for — Brazilian players, with a Portuguese-language interface.

The challenge

A gaming community moves between finding friends, organizing a group, talking, sharing a screen and choosing what to play. The challenge was to connect those moments without making the interface feel like a collection of separate tools.
The resulting design uses a persistent navigation rail, rounded surfaces, restrained glass effects and contextual controls. The group stays within reach as the activity changes.

01 — A home for every community

Home brings people, conversations and community shortcuts together. Servers have their own identity, channels and member structure, so users can move from a broad view to a specific group without losing context.

02 — Conversations that keep their context

Direct messages sit inside the same navigation system as communities. Replies, reactions and attachments support everyday conversation, while the interface keeps people and shared activity close to the message.

03 — Share what is happening

Screen sharing is part of the call experience. Resolution and frame-rate controls let the person presenting choose how to share, while the viewer offers focused controls for watching and expanding the stream.

04 — A library built around play

The desktop game library gives installed games a visual home. Windows integration connects the library to supported local game detection and launch controls, bringing the next session closer to the conversation.

05 — Control the feel of the experience

Interface preferences expose motion, visual effects and rendering choices in understandable language. The optimization area also connects to supported Windows controls, with reversible settings rather than permanent system changes.

06 — Nox, a contextual gaming assistant

Nox introduces AI assistance inside the product: a dedicated place for gaming questions, guidance and discovery. Its interface follows the same visual language, so assistance feels like part of the workspace.

07 — Structure for the whole group

Community conversations combine channels, member context and messaging. Roles, invitations and community controls support the practical work of running a group as it grows.

08 — One product, from interface to implementation

I worked across interaction design, reusable components, application state and service integration. React and TypeScript form the interface; Firebase supports application services; Electron connects the desktop experience to native capabilities. Real-time communication and contextual AI extend that foundation.

09 — Let the stream have its own space

A detachable stream viewer lets users place the shared screen in another window while keeping the conversation in the main workspace. The same viewing controls remain available, with an action to bring the stream back.

10 — Play without leaving the call

The in-call game catalog adds another way to spend time together. Users can browse categories and discover supported titles while the call remains active; participating in multiplayer sessions follows each game’s own room and access rules.

From product idea to a downloadable build

Strix combines product design and software engineering in a working application, with a Windows test release available on GitHub. This case presents real interface captures using demonstration communities, conversations and shared-screen content. Tablet-style frames are presentation mockups for the desktop software.
