Chubby Pawtory is a custom pet art & gifts brand led by a founder who had just started documenting her journey through a founder story series.
For Episode 02, I created a test edit that brought more personality and visual storytelling to her raw footage while keeping the focus on her story and the brand she was building.
The Challenge
How do you make a founder story feel engaging without taking attention away from the founder herself?
As she was just getting started with her business and content series, there wasn't yet an established editing language for the videos.
The footage had a genuine story behind it, but it needed an edit that could:
Keep viewers engaged throughout the story
Add personality without making the video feel overly edited
Create a visual style that could work across future episodes
Make the founder's personality and message the centre of the video
The Direction
I wanted the edit to feel warm, playful, and story-driven — something that matched the personality of Chubby Pawtory without turning the video into a collection of distracting effects.
What I Did
Created an engaging hook with intentional cuts and pacing
Chose clean, readable typography
Added captions and subtle text animations
Used sound effects to add rhythm and emphasis
Color-corrected the footage for a more polished look
Added visual details to keep the edit engaging
Most importantly, built the edit around her personality and referenced content style
The Execution
I treated the test edit as more than just a cut.
I focused on:
Finding the strongest moments in the raw footage and tightening the pacing
Using cuts and pauses to give the story a more natural rhythm
Adding visual moments that complemented what she was saying
Bringing attention to small, memorable moments in the story
Creating an editing style that could be carried into future founder story episodes
The Review
She specifically mentioned loving the opening with the Maltese.
