« If the Americans are putting a man on the moon, then we can be able to plan trees in our forests » - Professor Wangari Maathai, Peace Nobel Prize winner and founder of the Green Belt Movement.
Forests play a key role in Kenya, as they influence rainfall patterns, carbon emissions and biodiversity.
Two projects financed by AFD and implemented by the GBM aim at restoring these forests and preserving them in collaboration with the communities.
In the Aberdares forest, 3.8 million trees have been planted between 2006 and 2011, and in the Mau forest, 300,000 indigenous trees will be planted.
