Hit Point Press launched a successful Kickstarter campaign to fund lenticular-printed Dungeons & Dragons spell cards, bringing animated magic into the physical world. These cards served as convenient reference tools for players, displaying spell effects through looping animations on the front and detailed spell information on the back.

Each animation was limited to just eight frames to optimize the lenticular printing process and ensure smooth, visually striking effects. The challenge lay in creating seamless loops that captured the essence of each spell within the constraints of the format.

I was entrusted with designing over 20 cards for the initial campaign and was later brought back to create even more for the second and third campaigns. Each design was crafted to showcase bold, grand depictions of the spells, combining striking illustrations with special effects to make the animations truly stand out.

My workflow began with thumbnail sketches to explore different visual concepts. From there, I refined the designs to focus on a single, powerful idea that represented the spell effectively and worked well within the compact 120x70mm card dimensions. This often required stripping away unnecessary details to ensure the design remained impactful and clean.

The campaign was a phenomenal success, exceeding its initial funding goal by over 1000%. My designs were prominently featured throughout the campaign and even earned a place on the cover of their accompanying book.
