DEFINING THE SCOPE

Stakeholder Interview :
After being hired, I conducted an interview with the co-founder to understand their product. After asking a few questions like what their product is, their target audience, I then asked them what problem they are trying to solve and why they think that product will be the solution. The nature of the problem he described was :
“Access to quality healthcare is a critical challenge in many regions, particularly Africa. Patients facing life-threatening illnesses often have to travel abroad for treatment, with India being a popular destination. However, navigating the process of finding a suitable hospital,, and scheduling treatment can be overwhelming and stressful for these patients.”
Business Need
After the interview, I was tasked to do the following:
Competitive Analysis
User flow
Wireframes
Prototype and High Fidelity Mockups.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Patients seeking treatment in India, whether for critical illnesses or specialized procedures, need an effective way to schedule treatments and appointments with hospitals because the current process is often time-consuming and overwhelming, leading to anxiety for patients already facing a health crisis.
Goal
Help users from all over the world learn more about their diagnosis, contact facilitators and schedule treatment or procedures in India
Solution
I designed a user-friendly web tool that empowers patients to contact healthcare facilitators in India and after getting enough information, make informed decisions about their healthcare journeys. The tool offers several key features like :
Comprehensive Treatment Information: Users can access a centralized knowledge base with detailed explanations of various treatment options. This includes information on procedures all presented in a clear and easy-to-understand manner.
Transparent Cost Estimates: Mitigate the financial uncertainty often associated with treatment. The tool offers transparent cost estimates using a currency converter for various procedures, allowing users to make informed financial decisions.
Healthcare Facilitators : The platform helps bridge the gap between patients and qualified healthcare providers. Users can leverage the tool to find hospitals and doctors specializing in their specific treatment needs, fostering a more streamlined approach to finding the right care.

RESEARCH

Competitive Analysis
Goal of Competitive Analysis : The main goal of the market research were:
Explore the current solution to the problem and how they are presented to their users
Add ignored or solutions that weren’t formerly thought of
Analyze direct and indirect competitors and find opportunities to exploit
Design Inspiration
I Analyzed 4 competitors with some provided by the client, 2 direct competitors and 2 indirect competitors. I used features like, Pricing, User experience, Interaction, First Impression, Content; Tone, Descriptiveness.

DESIGN

Focusing on the functionality first, since the stakeholders already had their product requirements, I didn’t do a lot of ideation but I still made sure to include features I believed were going to help create a seamless navigation for the users and also solve slight issues they might have. I got those features from the data collected from the competitive matrix ( The solutions already used in the market and the weaknesses the competitors have and we can take advantage of ). So, I created wireframes, to test the functionality and flow of the website, making sure the desired task is achieved seamlessly by sending to the stakeholders, getting feedbacks and Iterating.
LO-FI WIREFRAMES
HI-FIDELITY MOCKUPS
Before moving to create High fidelity designs, I made sure we both agreed on the flow from beginning to achieving the desired goal. I prioritized my design decisions around :
How to find the right treatment on the platform
What happens when the users can’t find what they are looking for?
How do the facilitators ensure that their services reach their target audience
What information are more important to the users to enable them to make the desired decisions.
After creating the high fidelity mockups, I then created another prototype which was sent to the stakeholders to get their feedback.

REFLECTIONS

Since this was my first real project, it was a bit tougher than I expected, managing time and stakeholders, frequent meetings and rounds and rounds of iterations. I am glad and excited to have been given the opportunity to work on this project as it has given me a little perspective on what it’s like to be a UX Designer and what it actually entails. I learned that the design process is not linear and there will always be tons of iterations and revisits on different phases of the project. I was also privileged to be a bit more artistic in my design decisions to ensure that the users enjoy experiencing the platform and as a result help achieve the business’ goals.
This project really helped upgrade my communication skills and collaborative skills as a pretty introverted person, I learned to be able to speak a bit more freely by explaining my design decisions and also being open to criticisms and feedback. I am really grateful to the founders for choosing me as the right designer on this project.
How I would Measure Success
Since this was a contract based project, I can’t be involved in this phase but if I were to be, I would first measure success by conducting a pre launch usability test on various type of users (Different ages, gender, race and demographics) to make sure it is equitable and usable for all users. I will use metrics like Time on tasks, Satisfaction rate and Tasks achieved.
I would also use user engagement metrics like data analysis ( Time spent on website, How many users completed the goal of contacting HCFs, How many HCFs completed their profiles and created services, Reviews etc)
