Built with Rive

Animated Avatar Project

Nikki Eke

Animated Avatar Project
I created an animated avatar in Rive using a raster image that I prepared and segmented in GIMP. After cutting up the image into movable parts, I imported the pieces into Rive and applied the mesh feature to make the raster elements fully animatable. This allowed me to bring depth and flexibility to a traditionally static image, enabling natural movements such as subtle body gestures.
The project demonstrates how raster-based assets can be transformed into dynamic, interactive animations without losing visual quality. I focused on achieving lifelike motion while maintaining smooth performance suitable for real-time applications.
Through this process, I explored how combining raster editing tools like GIMP with Rive’s mesh deformation can expand creative possibilities, allowing designers to animate photographic or hand-drawn characters with the same fluidity as vector art.
