A Mayoral Visit
By Mollie Beth Johnson
Recently, Coach Harry Jaynes’s South Georgia Technical College Dual Enrollment US Government and Politics Class at Marion County High School wrote letters to important political leaders. The main goal of the students’ letters was to invite the leaders to visit and speak to their class. Kaylie Zamarripa chose to invite Buena Vista’s Mayor Kevin Brown.
Mayor Brown visited on March 8. During his visit, the students were able to ask him many questions about his job and how the city is run. He also explained many of the upcoming projects in store for the City of Buena Vista. One of the projects is a new water treatment plant. With this project may come a $0.01 sales tax. One student asked Mayor Brown about establishing a city park, but he informed the class that Buena Vista already has a park. He did mention that it was not in a very accessible area, so he would like to propose that the city move it. He said he also has goals to make the city more aesthetically pleasing. Before he left, Mayor Brown passed out cards with all his information and slips encouraging students to register to vote whenever they are old enough.
Coach Jaynes’s class would like to thank Mayor Brown for coming to visit them!
