Project Overview

In a demanding 6-week engagement at a fast-paced NYC ad-tech startup, I was tasked with launching and managing a pilot for their new "done-for-you" Google Ads product aimed at Small-to-Medium Businesses (SMBs). This involved rapidly setting up and managing campaigns for 40+ diverse SMB clients sourced through partnerships with Vertical SaaS companies serving specific industries, including restaurants, fitness studios/gyms, and heavy equipment businesses. My role encompassed the full spectrum of agency work – from strategy and technical setup to campaign build and active management – executed single-handedly at exceptional speed.
The Challenge: Agency-Level Output at Startup Speed
This project presented significant challenges demanding rapid, high-quality execution:
Extreme Velocity: Required immediate end-to-end setup and launch ("mach speed") for numerous clients simultaneously.
Full-Scope Responsibility: Functioned as a one-person agency, handling strategy, technical implementation (GA4, GTM, Ads), campaign building, optimization, and reporting for all clients.
Diverse SMB Needs: Developed and managed unique strategies tailored to distinct verticals (food service, fitness, equipment rental) with varying business goals and target audiences.
Ground-Up Technical Setup: Implemented full tracking and account structures from scratch for many clients, including Google Analytics 4 (GA4) goals and Google Tag Manager (GTM) configuration.
Ad-Tech Product Validation: Operated under pressure to quickly demonstrate the viability and effectiveness of the startup's new "done-for-you" ads service.
My Solution & Execution: Rapid Deployment & Agile Management
I tackled this high-intensity project through:
End-to-End Technical Implementation: Rapidly configured Google Ads accounts, set up precise conversion tracking via GTM, and established relevant goals within GA4 for each SMB client.
Customized SMB Strategies: Despite the volume, developed individualized Google Ads strategies based on each client's vertical, target market, and specific business objectives (e.g., lead generation for rentals, local foot traffic for restaurants, membership sign-ups for gyms).
Efficient Campaign Builds: Constructed targeted Search campaigns (and potentially relevant local/performance campaigns) leveraging appropriate keyword research, compelling ad copy, and location targeting for each SMB.
Intensive Management & Optimization: Actively managed bids, budgets, and targeting across all 40+ accounts, iterating quickly based on initial performance data to drive results within the short pilot window.
Key Results & Impact (in 6 Weeks):
Successful Multi-Client Launch: Deployed and managed Google Ads campaigns for 40+ SMBs across three distinct verticals within the compressed timeframe.
Exceptional Client ROI: Achieved a remarkable 7x Return on Ad Spend (ROAS) within just 3 weeks for the heavy equipment client group, demonstrating rapid value delivery.
Ad-Tech Product Validation: Successfully piloted the startup's "done-for-you" ads product, proving its operational feasibility and potential effectiveness.
