Int. Interrogation room-night
In the dark room a single light bulb illuminated the space, hanging above the two officers’ heads. They sit together by a table, swelling with anxiety over the case, ruminating about just how they’re going to solve it.
Henry(30), muscular and Caucasian vigorously reads over his notes, sitting by his partner. Joseph(30), muscular and black continuously knocks the table with his pencil. And as Henry combs through his notes, Joseph’s knocking works his nerves!
Most of the time, Henry was a man of patience and deep concentration. But now at the most dire of times, when justice hung in the balance, he had none. Henry swiftly takes the pencil out of Joseph’s hand, flinging it aside!
Joseph
What gives, partner?
Henry takes a deep breath, pinching his forehead and realizing the childishness of his outburst.
Henry
I’m sorry! I’m just so on edge! The victim’s family needs this mad woman behind bars.
Joseph
Well, we’re not going to get the information we need with you acting like a rookie!
Henry
You’re right! But what’s taking so long to get the suspect in here?
Joseph
Maybe-
As if in answer to his question, the guards in the hallway escort in the suspect and her lawyer. Katie(30), slender and curvaceous with long dark hair walks into the room with a gleeful smile.
The tension was palpable for the officers, but not her. As she playfully took her seat around the table, an immense pressure appeared, thinning the air. It was as if a serpent coiled around them, in defense of her, its master.
Behind her beauty and gleeful demeanor was a dark joy and confidence. Katie knew of the serpent, binding the officers.
She knew that the interrogation was a battle of information. And most dire of all, she knew she had every advantage!
Kati
Hello, officer Henry, Officer Joseph!
Joseph
Miss Blake!
Henry glares at Katie
Henry
Let’s get this over with!
Kati
And maybe later we can have some personal time!
Henry
I have a wife!
Kati
That’s never stopped men before!
Joseph
Enough! We have questions and you‘ll answer each one!
Kati
Of course! I’m ready to prove my innocence!
Henry
Innocence? What a laugh! We have your fingerprints on the murder weapon!
Kati
Which I used for self-defense!
Joseph
Which brings us to our first question. What were you doing in the office late at night?
Kati
I forgot some notes there and when I arrived, I found Mr. Williams. He was hacking into our boss’s computer and tried to kill me!
Hearing Kati, Henry vigorously reads through his notes.
Henry
That’s the part we find…questionable. We’ve spoken to everyone from his wife to past employers and their all shocked he could do such a thing!
Kati
I don’t know! Maybe he just snapped?
Henry
With such a clean record? Somehow I doubt that!
Kati
Any more wild theories you want to run past me, officers?
Joseph
I’m glad you asked! Because this case made me look closer at similar incidents involving your bank.
Kati
Such as?
Joseph
Just cases of funny money, shady clients, stuff like that!
Kati
I know what you’re talking about, and it’s all been disproven multiple times!
Joseph
With the accusers conveniently backing off when new…evidence surfaces. Without even a word of defense!
Lawyer
I’m sorry, officers, but it’s clear to me you have no hard evidence against my client. Let her go home or we’ll file charges!
Joseph takes a deep breath.
Joseph
Fine!
Kati and her lawyer swiftly rise from their seat, leaving the room. Drawing the enraged glares of Henry and Joseph.
