Disney Experiences — Global Corporate Website and Digital Storytelling Platform

Project Summary

I designed and developed a large-scale corporate website for Disney Experiences, creating a unified digital destination where audiences can explore the company’s global portfolio of parks, resorts, cruise experiences, consumer products, community initiatives, business impact, company news, and future expansion.
The project required more than producing an attractive marketing website. The platform needed to organize an extensive ecosystem of brands, destinations, stories, business information, press materials, and frequently updated content without making the experience feel complicated.
My approach combined immersive visual storytelling with a structured content system. The result is a responsive corporate platform that communicates the scale of Disney Experiences while preserving the emotion, imagination, and sense of discovery associated with the Disney brand.

The Client

Disney Experiences brings Disney stories and franchises to life through theme parks, resorts, cruise ships, vacation experiences, physical products, digital products, and other destinations around the world.
The organization operates across several major categories, including:
Disney Parks and Resorts
Disney Cruise Line
Disney Signature Experiences
Disney Consumer Products
Disney Vacation Club
Adventures by Disney
National Geographic Expeditions
Storyliving by Disney
Community and economic-impact programs
Global development and expansion projects
The website needed to represent these different business areas as parts of one recognizable and connected Disney Experiences portfolio.

The Challenge

Disney Experiences contains an enormous amount of content.
The platform needed to communicate the organization’s history, people, destinations, products, impact, announcements, press resources, and future growth. However, presenting every category with equal visual weight could have produced a confusing and overwhelming user experience.
The key challenges were:
Organizing a large global content ecosystem.
Serving several different audience groups.
Maintaining a consistent brand experience across diverse topics.
Supporting both emotional storytelling and corporate information.
Making frequently updated news easy to discover.
Creating reusable page structures for future content.
Preserving strong visual impact across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
The website also needed to support different visitor intentions. A guest may want to discover Disney destinations, while a journalist may be looking for press information, a business visitor may be researching company impact, and another visitor may want to learn about future developments.
The experience had to serve all of them without becoming fragmented.

The Project Goal

The central goal was to create a global digital platform that could communicate the full scope of Disney Experiences through a clear, scalable, and story-driven interface.
The website needed to:
Establish a clear overview of Disney Experiences
Present its global portfolio in an understandable way
Connect corporate information with emotional storytelling
Make news and announcements easy to discover
Create logical paths to destination and consumer websites
Communicate the company’s community and economic impact
Highlight upcoming expansions and future developments
Support ongoing editorial and corporate-content updates
Deliver a consistent experience across devices

Research and Discovery

I began by reviewing the different types of users who would visit the website and the information each audience would need.
The primary audience groups included:
Disney fans and general visitors
Media and press professionals
Business and industry audiences
Potential employees
Partners and licensees
Community stakeholders
Visitors researching Disney destinations
Users looking for official announcements
This audience analysis showed that the website could not follow a simple promotional landing-page structure.
It needed to function as both an immersive brand experience and a practical corporate-information platform.
I therefore organized the experience around several clear content pillars:
About Disney Experiences
Parks and destinations
Cruise experiences
Signature experiences
Consumer products
Company impact
Global expansion
News and press resources
This structure gives visitors a clear starting point while allowing them to explore deeper content without losing context.

Information Architecture

The information architecture was designed to make a complex organization feel simple.
The main navigation separates the content into clear categories, while supporting links connect visitors to relevant external Disney properties, consumer destinations, corporate resources, and press platforms.
The structure includes:

About

This area introduces the company’s story, people, leadership, values, and achievements.

News and Press

News, company developments, announcements, and media resources are grouped into dedicated editorial sections.

Our Experiences

The portfolio is divided into recognizable categories such as parks, cruises, signature travel experiences, and consumer products.

Our Impact

Community and economic-impact information is presented separately from commercial experiences, helping users understand the organization’s wider contribution.

Expansions

Future attractions, destinations, cruise developments, and other major projects are brought together within a dedicated growth section.
This hierarchy allows the website to contain substantial information while keeping the main navigation focused and understandable.

UX Strategy

The user experience was built around progressive discovery.
Visitors first receive a broad introduction to Disney Experiences. From there, they can move into the parts of the portfolio that are most relevant to them.
Rather than presenting long blocks of corporate information, the design uses:
Strong introductory statements
Immersive photography
Short supporting descriptions
Editorial content cards
Categorized portfolio sections
Clear calls to action
Scannable page layouts
Contextual links
Reusable destination modules
Visual transitions between topics
Each section provides enough information to establish interest before guiding the visitor toward a deeper page or external Disney destination.
This prevents the homepage from becoming a directory while still allowing it to represent the scale of the organization.

Visual Design Direction

The visual system balances three important qualities:
Magic, credibility, and clarity.
The website needed to feel unmistakably connected to Disney while still functioning as a professional corporate platform.
Large-scale photography creates emotion and immediately places visitors inside Disney destinations, stories, products, and experiences.
Clean typography and generous spacing provide structure around the imagery, allowing the website to remain sophisticated rather than visually overwhelming.
The design uses:
Cinematic full-width imagery
Strong editorial typography
Spacious content composition
Layered content cards
Clear visual hierarchy
Consistent image ratios
Purposeful use of white space
Branded interface details
Controlled motion and transitions
Flexible content grids
This approach allows the visual content to create wonder while the interface maintains usability.

Homepage Experience

The homepage serves as the primary introduction to the Disney Experiences organization.
It begins with a clear brand statement focused on bringing Disney stories to life. From there, the experience progresses through company news, business impact, portfolio categories, expansion, editorial stories, and social channels.
The homepage was designed to perform several roles simultaneously:
Introduce Disney Experiences
Communicate the breadth of the organization
Surface recent announcements
Highlight major areas of impact
Present the global portfolio
Promote future growth
Direct visitors toward deeper content
Connect users with official social channels
The modular layout makes it possible to update major stories and featured content without redesigning the complete page.

Portfolio Presentation

One of the most important parts of the project was presenting a highly diverse portfolio as one connected ecosystem.
The website includes content covering:
Disneyland Resort
Walt Disney World Resort
Tokyo Disney Resort
Disneyland Paris
Shanghai Disney Resort
Hong Kong Disneyland Resort
Disney Cruise Line
Disney Vacation Club
Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa
Adventures by Disney
National Geographic Expeditions
Storyliving by Disney
Disney Consumer Products
Each destination or business receives its own visual identity through photography and content, while the overall interface remains consistent.
This creates enough variation to keep the experience engaging without making each page feel like a separate website.

News and Editorial System

The website required a flexible editorial system capable of presenting announcements from multiple destinations, business areas, and content sources.
I designed news cards and story modules that could accommodate:
Different headline lengths
Category labels
Destination names
External and internal articles
Featured stories
Image-led announcements
Press releases
Video content
Time-sensitive company updates
A clear card hierarchy helps users distinguish between primary stories, supporting news, and related content.
The system also allows current announcements to appear across relevant parts of the website instead of being limited to a single news page.

Expansion and Growth Content

The expansion section required a structure capable of presenting numerous future projects across different destinations and business areas.
I organized this content into destination-based groups with consistent modules for:
Project titles
Supporting descriptions
Concept imagery
Attraction details
Related announcements
External information links
Development categories
This approach allows users to explore major developments without navigating through unrelated announcements.
The structure is also scalable, enabling new projects and destinations to be added as Disney Experiences continues to expand.

Corporate Impact

The website does not focus only on entertainment and travel.
It also communicates Disney Experiences’ effect on communities, employment, suppliers, local businesses, charitable programs, and regional economies.
These topics required a more informative visual style while still fitting the wider website.
I used structured content sections, statistics, supporting stories, geographic information, and clear hierarchy to make complex corporate-impact information easier to understand.
This created a balance between emotional brand storytelling and evidence-based corporate communication.

Responsive Design

The website was designed to provide a consistent experience across desktop, tablet, and mobile screens.
Responsive decisions included:
Simplifying complex navigation for smaller screens
Maintaining readable typography
Adapting image crops for different devices
Reorganizing multi-column content
Preserving clear content hierarchy
Increasing touch-target accessibility
Optimizing editorial cards for vertical browsing
Reducing unnecessary interface complexity
Maintaining consistent spacing across breakpoints
The mobile experience was treated as a complete interface rather than a reduced desktop layout.

Reusable Design System

To support a website of this scale, I created a reusable component approach.
The design system included:
Navigation components
Hero sections
Article cards
Portfolio cards
Destination modules
Image-and-copy sections
Call-to-action blocks
Quote sections
Social-content modules
News grids
Category labels
Buttons and text links
Footer structures
Responsive spacing rules
Typography hierarchy
Reusable components improve consistency and make it easier to publish new content without creating every page from the beginning.
They also help protect the brand experience as the website grows.

Development Approach

I translated the visual direction into a responsive, content-driven website with reusable templates and modular sections.
The development focused on:
Flexible content management
Consistent component behavior
Responsive implementation
Semantic page structure
Scalable editorial layouts
Reusable page templates
Cross-browser compatibility
Media optimization
Clear internal and external linking
Maintainable front-end structure
Accessibility-conscious markup
Quality assurance across devices
The system was designed to support frequent content updates while maintaining visual consistency.

Accessibility and Usability

Accessibility was considered throughout the interface design and development process.
Key considerations included:
Clear heading hierarchy
Readable text sizes
Strong foreground and background contrast
Descriptive link behavior
Keyboard-friendly navigation
Logical content order
Visible interaction states
Appropriate spacing around controls
Responsive touch targets
Alternative text support for images
Reduced dependence on motion
A direct skip-to-content option
These decisions help make the website easier to navigate for a wider range of visitors.

The Outcome

The completed platform brings a large and diverse organization into one coherent digital experience.
The website successfully creates:
A unified home for the Disney Experiences portfolio
Clear navigation across complex content
A stronger connection between corporate information and brand storytelling
A flexible platform for news and announcements
A scalable structure for future destinations and projects
Consistent presentation across business areas
Clearer pathways to Disney’s consumer and corporate websites
A polished experience across desktop and mobile devices
The final result feels visually immersive without sacrificing clarity.
It allows visitors to understand Disney Experiences at a global level and then move naturally toward the destination, story, business area, or corporate resource that interests them.
