Video Editor for YouTube Tech & AI Tutorials

📌 Client

Building Great Products, a YouTube channel by Chris Ashby, agency founder, startup advisor, and ex–product designer, helping entrepreneurs build and launch profitable AI-powered apps. With over 30,000 subscribers, his channel blends tutorials, industry insights, and real-world app demos to guide creators through building the next generation of AI-driven products.

✨ Project Overview

I became Chris Ashby’s go-to video editor for the Building Great Products YouTube channel, handling all post-production for his long-form tutorials, product breakdowns, and demo walkthroughs.
Chris creates high-value content teaching founders how to design, build, and launch AI apps, often using cutting-edge no-code or “AI-vibe coding” tools. His ideas are sharp, technical, and fast-moving, so my job is to craft videos that feel clear, dynamic, and extremely watchable, even when the subject matter gets complex.
Since partnering, I’ve edited 25+ full-length YouTube videos, helping Chris publish consistently and reclaim hours each week so he can focus on building products, running his Skool community, and developing new programs.

🎯 The Goal

Chris wanted to:
🕒 Reduce the time he spent editing, so he could focus on strategy, community, and product development
📈 Increase video views and channel growth through stronger pacing and more polished edits
🎨 Maintain visual consistency across all his videos
🔁 Publish more regularly, ideally 2+ videos per week
As his audience grew rapidly, he needed an editor who could keep up with the pace of content, handle technical footage, and turn raw recordings into high-quality, educational videos ready for YouTube.

🧠 The Challenge

Before we started working together, editing was taking Chris too long which meant:
Slower publishing cadence
Fewer weekly videos
Less time available to create scripts, build products, and engage with his community
A backlog of tutorials waiting to be edited
Less partnership opportunities
And because his tutorials often involve multiple layers of screen recordings, demos, tabs, tool comparisons, and conceptual explanations, the edits had to be exceptionally clean and fluid for viewers to follow.
My challenge was to take raw recordings, sometimes dense, technical, or heavy on screen walkthroughs; and turn them into tutorials that feel accessible, fast, and beginner-friendly, without losing their depth.

🛠️ My Role

As his dedicated YouTube editor, I handle the full post-production process, including:
🎞️ Cutting + pacing to keep momentum high
🔊 Sound cleanup for clarity and consistency
🖥️ Integration of screen recordings with talking head
Micro-animations, zoom-ins, emphasis cuts, and visual cues to keep tutorials engaging
🧹 Removing filler words, pauses, and distractions
✂️ Structuring longer videos into clear, digestible segments
I edit everything in Descript, which allows for a fast workflow integrating AI to match Chris’s high publishing pace.

📈 Results

Even without analytics access, the impact has been clear:
📅 Increased publishing frequency: Chris now releases more videos per week because editing no longer bottlenecks him
👨‍💻 With the time freed, he built and launched a new accelerator program
📈 The channel grew from ~10k subscribers to 33k+
🔥 Several videos have performed exceptionally well, reaching:
10k views in a week
5k–3k views within days
🎥 A consistent video pipeline has developed, with new content delivered weekly
Most importantly: the channel looks and feels more polished, professional, and aligned with Chris’s brand of “high-signal, zero-fluff” education.

🔑 Why This Matters

Editing technical content isn’t just about cutting clips, it’s about making complex ideas feel simple and actionable + making the content creator be more confident infront of their audience.
For audiences learning how to build an AI-powered app or launch a digital product, clarity is everything. With Chris’s content:
The information must be precise
The pacing must be engaging
The visuals must be intuitive
The edits must support learning, not distract from it
By shaping his raw footage into clean, high-retention tutorials, I help transform expert-level knowledge into videos that viewers can follow, enjoy, and use to build real products.
And honestly? I learn a lot myself in the process.
