Project Overview

This project marked my involvement in a large-scale commercial production created in collaboration with Humana Films and the government of Guadeloupe, aimed at showcasing the very best the island has to offer to future visitors.
I joined the project as a creative contributor and AI specialist, invited to support the production teams with conceptual execution and shot creation, bringing AI-driven workflows into a traditional commercial pipeline.
The goal was to produce a visually rich, modern TV advertisement highlighting the island’s natural beauty, infrastructure, local cuisine, sports, agriculture, and authentic cultural identity — all presented in an engaging, cinematic way.
Let’s take a look at how this collaboration came together.

Pre-Production Process

As this project was a collaboration between multiple teams, I began with a deep immersion into the shared vision of all parties involved and gathered all required assets.
The production was built in several layers. A dedicated crew of videographers captured footage directly on the island, while our team curated the strongest photo and video materials to move forward with.
Once the selection was finalized, I focused on enhancement and refinement. Since this was not an AI-generated video and the client’s perspective was conservative and traditional, I relied on classical video production techniques — from manual photo editing to rotoscoping and compositing in After Effects — selectively supported by AI tools where they added real value without altering the natural look.

Production

Once the materials were selected and all ideas were aligned, I started building the shots step by step, assembling the narrative through carefully designed moments.
The core storytelling approach relied on a scale paradox — blending real video and photography with subtle VFX to create surprising transitions while keeping the look grounded and cinematic.
Key shots included:
An athlete jumping over a bridge on the island
A cooking pot opening, revealing a beach inside
The island floating in the sky
A pouring coconut transition turning into a drone fly-through over a river
Giant construction workers discussing the building of a hospital, presented as a time-lapse
Example — Hospital Time-Lapse Shot
This shot shows how powerful AI can be when the workflow is planned properly.
I started with an existing photo of the completed hospital. From that base, I created multiple versions showing the building at different construction stages, then used AI to generate a time-lapse progression, simulating the full build-up over time.

Post-Production

Once all image and video elements were generated — such as the bridge at sunset with the jumping athlete or the construction sequences — a major post-production phase began, focused on assembling everything into cohesive shots, one by one.
For the athlete shot, I created precise masks in After Effects and carefully matched color, lighting, and exposure across all elements to ensure a seamless result.
The same approach was applied to the rest of the scenes — refining each shot individually so that all composites felt natural, balanced, and visually consistent within the final edit.

Delivery & Results

Once all composite shots were finalized, I delivered them for parallel editing and voice-over production, handled by Humana Films.
The final result was well received by all stakeholders — dynamic, fresh, and creatively bold while remaining accessible for a wide audience. The commercial aired on daytime television in France as well as on Guadeloupe’s local TV, successfully reaching both mainland and regional viewers.

What the client had to say

Serge has been really supportive on our AI project. It didn’t allow him to fully showcase his capabilities, but he invested all the time needed to deliver a professional result. He’s also organized and shares with his workflow. Thanks!
