I’m not a songwriter, but I was recently inspired to create a song thanks to the Wicked campaign. I saw a live production of Wicked years ago though I haven’t seen the film yet. While I was never a big fan of the musical, the songs are very powerful and evocative.
And, in my own way, I wanted to pay homage to the Broadway sound while also exploring the painful things I’ve experienced over time. I grew up, like Elphaba, feeling different. Her because she was green, me because I was Jade. Our appearances separated us from others and ultimately led us down the paths we’ve taken.
For me, I’m still walking down that road. And for anyone else that’s doing the same, I hope this resonates with you.
