Privilege is not an excuse for failure! Find your “privilege” and prove that you can be successful!

Privilege is often used as an excuse by lazy people to not try or take steps to achieve success. They always assume that success can only be achieved if they are born into a wealthy family or have a high social status. However, even if they are born with such circumstances, it is not certain that they will be successful.
Many people are also born rich, but because they do not have a success mentality and the intention to build a business or continue their family business, they do not become anything.
Success isn’t confined to those born into wealth or high social standing. Even with a well-off but less prestigious background, the opportunity for achievement still flourishes.
What is Privilege?
Before we dive deeper, it is important to understand what privilege means. According to the Britannica dictionary, privilege is an advantage that wealthy and powerful people have over other people in a society. In other words, people who are born with privilege will always gain benefits without having to work hard. They will also be more respected in society compared to those who “do not have” privilege.
Of course, this can cause jealousy among people who are not born with privilege. This is especially true for those who are starting their careers and want to become successful. However, is it true that privilege is only limited to being born into a wealthy family and having high social status?
You Have Privilege Too!
It is not clear when privilege became synonymous with being born into a wealthy family and having high social status in society. However, we all have the privileges that can help us achieve success. Simply put, the fact that you can read this article is an indication that you have privilege.
How is that possible? I can assure you that you are reading this article on a computer, laptop, or smartphone that you own. You are also able to access this article using an internet connection, either through cellular data or Wi-Fi. This already shows that you are one of the people who have privilege.

Privilege is not limited to being born into a wealthy family or having high social status.
Owning a smartphone, laptop, or computer, as well as having internet access to explore various information online, also makes you a person with privilege.
Try to reflect on yourself and your current situation. Having a healthy body, good thinking skills, communication skills, being sociable, and having a strong determination are also privileges that you possess to achieve success. There are surely many other things that you are good at, or at least you can learn to be good at, and if you hone them well, they will make you a person with privilege as well.
So, What Comes After Privilege?
Now you know that you also have the privilege. So, what should you do to use your privilege to become successful? You need to recognize your potential!
You can ask for help from people around you to identify some of your basic strengths and weaknesses. However, you need to be aware of yourself. Some people may disagree with this, but I believe that other people’s opinions can also help understand yourself.
Ultimately, only you can truly understand yourself. I agree with this, but you should not completely disregard other people’s opinions.
1. Ask your close friends and family
You can start by asking your close friends and family for their honest opinions about you.

Their opinions may not be completely accurate, but they can still be valuable insights.
Just like an enemy who wants to see you fail, your close friends and family can identify your weaknesses and use them against you. However, they also know your strengths and can help you develop them. The more you talk to them, the more data they will have to help you understand yourself. Their opinions may not be the most important thing, but their honesty can help you see yourself more clearly.
2. Ask yourself
After listening to the perspectives of others, you can process them and reflect on yourself. If you think their opinions are wrong, think again. Are they wrong, or are you just unwilling to admit the truth?
Even if their opinions are correct, don’t just accept them blindly. Think about everything again, because being too overconfident can also make you biased towards yourself.

You need to recognize your strengths and weaknesses so that you can maximize your potential and achieve success.
Once you have identified your potential, you need to hone it consistently so that it can become your weapon to break through the barriers that prevent you from achieving success.
Break Down the Walls!
Now it’s time for you to break down the walls that are holding you back from success. You can use a weapon known as critical thinking.
Critical thinking is essential for breaking down the walls that limit your growth. As I explained earlier, critical thinking is also a privilege. If you have it, make sure you use it wisely. But if you feel that your thinking skills are not yet critical enough, there is no need to be discouraged.
Be grateful to God who has created humans in the best way possible. Every human being has the same brain capacity, and the only difference is how often the brain is used. Therefore, if you feel that your thinking skills are not yet critical enough, you can hone them.
There are many ways to hone your thinking skills. You can read books, listen to podcasts, or talk to people you think have good thinking skills. If you do these three things, make sure you don’t just accept everything you hear or read.
Reading a book will only make you smarter if you only read it after trying to understand and process what the author is saying. The same goes for listening to podcasts or talking to people smarter than you. Listening is good, but don’t just listen. If you can argue with a clear basis, don’t hesitate to debate your interlocutor. Because of that debate, critical thinking will emerge.
Motivation and Consistency
The culmination of all the tips I have shared above is motivation and consistency. You need these two things to help you in the process of achieving success or even beating those who are born rich and have high social status.
Without motivation, you will feel bored with the process. If you are already bored, then there is no other word for it but to give up. If you have decided to give up, then immediately decide that success is just a dream that you cannot reach.
The same goes for consistency. Everyone has their own time. Some are faster, some need extra patience to go through the process. Not everyone can stay consistent on their journey to success. Therefore, make sure that you are not someone with low motivation and consistency.
Conclusion
Everyone in this world is born with their strengths and weaknesses. It is natural to feel jealous of the advantages that others have. However, don’t let that hinder your growth.
The neighbor’s grass always looks greener than the grass in our yard. Instead of feeling jealous and envious, we should take care of the grass in our yard so that it becomes greener than before. So we no longer pay attention to the neighbor’s grass, but instead, we are busy taking care of our grass which we think is already much better than the neighbor’s grass.
Surely, I don’t need to explain the sentence above again, right? I’m sure you understand. The gist of this article is that I’m just trying to convince you that you are also a person with privilege.

Even if it is not the same as those who are born rich or have high social status, you still have that privilege.
So, maximize all your efforts. Have the right intentions. Go through the process consistently. Enjoy all the failures that come your way. And eventually, success will come to you on its own.
