Walk in The Sea Barrier, Animation Exploration

Lately, I’ve been exploring different ways to present my works—not just as still images, but also with movement. This time, I tried turning my illustration into a simple animated GIF! It’s not my first attempt at animation, but since I rarely make them, it still feels like a fresh experience. Through this process, I learned the basic principles of walk cycle animation. There are four key poses:
Contact – the normal standing step
Down – when the body lowers as a step begins
Passing – the back leg moves forward, body leaning slightly ahead
Up – the highest point, just before the leg completes the step
Develop each frame on Krita

For the animation process, I used Krita because its onion skin and animation tools were really helpful. But for combining the character with the background, I still prefer using Kdenlive for now.
Merge each frame through Kdenlive

I realized how challenging yet fun it is—animation demands consistency, since every movement is drawn frame by frame. For this piece, I kept it simple: copy-pasting, shifting, and redrawing only the moving parts like the legs, hands, and hijab.
The end result
Next time, I’d love to push it further by drawing every frame from scratch. Can’t wait to see how that turns out!
