Fête de la Musique à Normandie: Full-Stack Web App

Have you ever been to a concert? When was the first time you went?
When creating this application, I wanted it to be related to music. I could have based it on a particular album or band, but the best option was to make it about a festival. The idea of doing it in French comes from two reasons: the smaller one, to practice my French (it’s my first app made in French), and the greater one, to pay tribute to one of my biggest inspirations; not only musically, but also in life itself: Martin Mussard, better known as Naâman.
Today, Naâman would have turned 36. His music, a fusion of reggae, hip‑hop, and both classic and modern sounds, has inspired countless people around the world. His lyrics touched on themes such as life, love, and social issues. Beyond all this, Naâman inspired me with his global vision, performing everywhere from France to Jamaica, and from Mozambique to Goa. It was in these last two places that his final studio album, Temple Road, drew much of its inspiration, with songs like Maputo and Sunrise of India. However, it’s in his classic songs like Simplicity that I highlight this verse: “A free ride is a good ride / Starting it from nowhere it ah end up worldwide”, or in Crazy, with his vision: “Well the real friend is our wisdom” and “Well a simple life is the keystone.”
This application is, above all, a tribute. A tribute to perhaps one of the greatest references I’ve ever had. That’s why I chose his birthplace region, Normandy.

Design and Tools

For this application, I used Node, Next, Tailwind, React, as well as VS Code and Pexels for almost all the images, except for the one of Naâman, which comes from Télérama. The application is divided into four sections: Accueil (the main section, with access to the others), Le Festival (with information about the festival), Hommage (a short biography of Naâman, along with an inspiring quote), and Votre Avis, which consists of a survey where users can share their preferred style and a message about their experience at the festival.
To handle the survey data, I used Resend, which sends the responses to an email address (in this case, mine).

Accueil

As you can see in the following image, I incorporated a palette of both blue and white, along with a background image that makes the text easy to read. You can also see the navigation bar, as well as the fact that Votre Avis is included within a blue button. These colors symbolize the place where we carried out the application.
Additionally, you can notice a small musical note icon. This is because users can listen to a short melody inspired by Naâman’s last album, Temple Road. The melody draws inspiration from Indian music, featuring a vocalization accompanied by a sitar.

On the main page, I also included three cards that serve as “doors” to the other sections of the application. The cards, especially the second and third, have a transparent effect with blue and red colors.

Le Festival

In the Festival section, we have some information and features about the event, along with a few images. The background color is a warm blue, not too dark and not too vivid.

Hommage

This section is the most important one. Here, we included the tribute to the French singer Naâman. The text colors symbolize the colors of France; however, within the text we emphasize that Naâman was the soul of the world.

I also included a quote from the Bengali polymath Rabindranath Tagore.

Votre Avis

Finally, in this section we ask the audience (that is, the user) about their musical tastes: their favorite style, their experience, and any message they would like to leave.

Here, for example, we have completed the survey with a sample response.

Once we press “Envoyer mes réponses” (Send my answers), we will see the following message:

In my inbox (or in the inbox where the data is meant to be received), we will find the following email:

Conclusion

Creating this application was much more than simply writing code. It was a truly wonderful experience, as it gave me the chance to build a project about someone I deeply admire, someone who has not only shaped my musical tastes, but also my way of seeing and enjoying life. This is for you, Martin.
