Kabuki Night in Tokyo: Creating a Website

Walking through the lantern-lit streets of Tokyo, we arrive at the Kabuki-za Theatre, its ornate façade glowing in the evening. Inside, the atmosphere is electric, with audiences hushed in anticipation. The performance begins with actors in elaborate costumes and striking makeup, moving with precision and grace. The music of shamisen strings fills the hall, weaving seamlessly with the dramatic voices on stage. Immersed in this centuries-old art, we feel both transported and deeply connected to Japan’s cultural soul.

Design and Tools

The tools used in this project are Node.js, Next.js, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, React, and of course VS Code. In addition, we also make use of images generated with Lummi.
After that, I deployed it using Git and Vercel.
The website is designed as a single page, divided into three sections: Home, About, and Reviews. The typography is modern, and the color palette combines a dark tone with certain neon light accents, always respecting the Japanese style. Apart from that, the website is written in Japanese.

Home

This is the main section. Here we can see the Hero image, generated with Lummi, which includes two buttons to access the other two sections of the page. We can also see how the navigation bar features the dark tone and the neon colors corresponding to the page.

About

This section contains some basic information about Kabuki, as well as its location and founding date. On the other hand, we can see different images with a more traditional tone, in order to honor the Kabuki tradition.

Reviews

In this section, we can see six reviews, each with a corresponding image. The style of the images is modern, in contrast to the images from the previous section. If you hover over one of the images, we can see it in color. In other words, we add interactivity to the image display.

Final Comment

Building this website has been a wonderful experience. It is the perfect continuation of my previous site, Komorebi Tea House, which had a lighter style. Both websites are single-page and honor Japanese culture.
