Lava is a Bitcoin financial platform backed by $30M in funding from Founders Fund, Khosla Ventures, and investors including Peter Thiel and Vinod Khosla. The platform lets Bitcoin holders access dollars without selling their BTC through a Bitcoin Line of Credit (BLOC), alongside a Visa card, USD savings accounts yielding 6.5% APY, and zero-fee BTC purchases — all built on self-custodial infrastructure.
AGR Studio was brought on as Lava's embedded Framer development partner on an ongoing retainer, handling website design, development, and iteration across the company's full product suite — new page builds, landing pages for paid acquisition, homepage redesigns, and continuous UI refinements as products evolve.
Understanding the Product Suite
Lava operates across multiple product lines — BLOC (Bitcoin Line of Credit), a Visa card, USD savings, and zero-fee BTC purchases. Each product targets a slightly different segment of Bitcoin holders, from long-term HODLers to everyday spenders. The website needed to serve as both a brand platform and a conversion engine for each product independently.
Competitive Positioning
Design references included Mercury, Wise, Revolut, and Payoneer — adapted to Lava's brand language. The goal was to position Lava as a credible financial institution rather than a typical crypto startup, using clean layouts, section color blocking, and a green accent system to build trust with Bitcoin holders evaluating lending options.
Homepage Redesign
Led a full homepage transition from dark mode to a light color scheme, aligning the primary site with an updated brand direction. The migration involved background updates, video screen adjustments, CTA color changes, and staging environment testing before going live — shifting the aesthetic from crypto-native to broadly approachable.
Conversion-Focused Landing Pages
Each product received a dedicated landing page designed around a single conversion goal. The Lava Card page was structured with a card hero, three-card feature section, a BLOC comparison table highlighting competitive advantage (5% fixed vs. 9.5–15% from competitors), benefits grid, security section, and prominent bottom CTA. The Savings page featured an interactive APY comparison chart and three-step onboarding flow.
Multi-Page Framer Build
Full Framer development across all pages with responsive breakpoints. The section color blocking system — alternating dark and light sections — creates visual rhythm while maintaining readability across long-scroll landing pages.
Paid Acquisition Support
Built and iterated on dedicated landing pages for paid acquisition campaigns targeting Bitcoin holders. Work included hero treatment updates, section background transitions, CTA button color optimization, and URL hierarchy structured under /learning/ to support the ads team's tracking and analytics.
Continuous Iteration
The retainer covers ongoing refinements: CTA color and placement testing, section background adjustments, hero treatment updates across pages, asset swaps, responsive fixes, and coordination with the broader product and ads teams. Staging environments are used for testing major changes before going live.
A Continuously Evolving Web Presence
The ongoing partnership gives Lava a website that keeps pace with their product launches and growth campaigns. From initial BLOC landing pages through the card product launch and homepage redesign, the site shifted from a dark, crypto-native aesthetic to a cleaner, more approachable light design — broadening appeal beyond the crypto-native audience while maintaining the technical credibility Bitcoin holders expect.
