What is Copy Writing
The act of writing something intending to help directly or indirectly, advertise or sell something.
Examples: Website copy, landing page, sales page, flyers/brochures, sales email, marketing emails, Blog post, product description, service description, ebooks/lead magnet, you tube description and so on
Build.ing a foundation for copy writing
1. Reading help you write.
Get into habit of reading everyday, whether that be 10,20,30,40, minutes, Reading is part of successful writinghabit. I will say it is probably pretty reasonable to say that you should commit at least 20 minutes, everyday. To reading indefinitely if you have aspiration of becoming a writer
2. Get started writing anything.
At some points every writer need to start by just writing anything. I’m not even talking about doing copywriting but just writing anything. You need to learn how to writing stuff…….
NOTE: COPY WRITING IS A SKILL THAT COME WITH PRACTICE
BIGINNER WRITING EXERCISE
1. Sit down in front of a pad of paper or blank word document
2. Set a 20 minutes timer on your phone
3. Start writing and don’t stop until your timer goes off
Note: you first write anything that come to your head and you know that you understand this will help you to improve your writing skills.
3.Learing the basics of copy writing
1.Study “good” copy on websites of popular successful companies online
2.Study “good” copy found in marketing emails had sent to your to you in your inbox
3.study “good” copy by actually submitting your emails on a website or entering their sales funnel to see how interacting with you
Writing your first pieces of copy
30 days of copy writing prompts
1. Select a writing prompt ( will give you some on the next slides)
2. Each day select a different company to be the pretend client
3. Write the copy using the prompt, for that particular client
4. Do this for 30 days, using the same writing prompt
5. The goal is to get super comfortable writingone form of copy
6. Can choose to do multiple writing prompts
7. If you don’t feel comfortable after 30days do another 30days
Sample writing prompts
Writing Prompts #1: Outbound Prospecting email
Type of companies that might need this service: SaaS software companies, gyms and fitness center, offshore software development firms, management, consulting companies, digital media companies
A company needs help writing an email to engage with prospective clients. The goal of the email is to have the prospect agree to call to view a demo of the product or service that company sells.
TIP: If you submit your email on a company “contact us” page or landing page they might send an email. Odds are that email might be a good indicator of the type of messaging that type of company is already sending out to prospects. You can that as a helpful example
Writing prompt #2: Product / Service description
Type of companies that might need this service: Clothing companies, electronics companies, watch brands, boutique retailer, supplement companies, E-Learning companies, SaaS software companies.
A Company needs help writing a product or services description for a new product they are launching. The description needs to reflect the company values, while also being informative and engaging, encouraging potential customer to click “add to cart”
TIP: For this writing prompt reviewing things like the company website, social media accounts, and newsletter will help you with the idea of their brand identity. Understanding their brand is an important part of writing product / service descriptions that reflect the company values
Writing prompt #3: Website Homepage
Type of companies that might this service: Any company you can think of that has a website A startup company is launching their website for the very first time. They need help writing copy for their homepage that will do a good job explaining what they do, and also encourage site visitor to do something by leveraging a well written call to action on their homepage.
TIP: For this of writing prompt, understanding what a company does( what they sell) is important to creating an effective call to action. A call to action is a piece of copy that encourages the person reading it to take immediate action on something or make a purchase.
How to build a portfolio?
Review all of the practice writing prompts you’ve done over past few months
Select your best prompts (Don’t see any you like? Keep practicing)
Build on the good ones, try them again see if you can make them better
Curate your best pieces of practice work and use them to build a portfolio to secure your first few clients
Where can I sell my service?
There are a lot of site that you can sell your service but the best one I will recommend is to sell your service on “FIVERR” or 'CONTRA there you can make a lot a money.
